Whether testing out a new dish or whipping up a family classic, there's one recipe that should also be included on the menu this holiday season: Safety.
Ingredients:
  1. Functioning smoke alarms
  2. GFCI receptacles
  3. Sparkling clean appliances
  4. Mindful of surroundings
rSkyline Electric's recipe for a fun safe Thanksgiving:
  • Make sure there are smoke alarms installed in every bedroom, outside every sleeping area and on every level of the home. For best protection, smoke alarms should be interconnected so if one goes off it triggers them all.
    • Test the batteries in your smoke detectors every month, replace the batteries once a year and smoke detector unit every 8-10 years.
    • If you are missing smoke detectors or it is time to replace them contact Skyline Electric and let us keep your home and family safe.
  • GFCIs are  electrical safety devices that trip electrical circuits when they detect ground faults or leakage currents that could electrocute someone. GFCIs should be installed where electricity and water may come in contact, such as kitchens.
    • Test your GFCIs monthly by pushing the test button on the front, you should hear a click and the reset button will pop out.  Push the reset button and make sure it holds to verify the GFCI is working properly.
    • If your GFCIs are not functioning properly or worse you don't have GFCI protection call Skyline Electric to get the issue resolved.
  • Always make sure you are using safe cooking practices to ensure an enjoyable, safe and memorable Thanksgiving.
    • make sure your oven and stovetop are clean and free of dust and grease. also make sure your exhaust hood are cleaned regularily.
    • Use a kitchen timer to make sure something cooking doesn't get forgotten while entertaining.
    • Make sure all cords for appliances are not hanging over the counter where children can reach them, also clear of cooking surfaces and the sink.
Skyline Electric always has your home and family's safety in mind. If you need help getting your home ready for the holidays or any other electrical issues. Give us a call at 651-528-4975 or visit our contact page.
